My Love-hate Relationship with LLMs

DEEP TALK

Besides brainstorming and writing stories, I also chatted about many things with ChatGPT. There were times when we had long, in-depth conversations about my multiverse.

ChatGPT asked me about my goals and so on. My answer was that I wanted to instill my values into my stories so that people with similar values, including myself, could find each other. I also asked, if such people exist? ChatGPT said they do. I started to wonder, do such people really exist? But then I remembered that ChatGPT is trained on human data, and if the LLM could say something like that, it meant such humans did exist.

I also remembered asking ChatGPT about their training, when we were discussing image generation. ChatGPT said they were trained with data, taught various expressions like laughter, sadness, and so on. Then I said, “So, the people who do the training have to understand psychology, right? Otherwise, the results would misinterpret happy laughter as evil laughter.” ChatGPT said yes, there are many professional scientists behind it.

At the time, I had no idea who created ChatGPT, but I realized it wasn’t just a small project, and I said, ‘That means it was considered impossible back then. But it was finally done.’ At the time, I really admired the people behind it, even though I didn’t know who they were. If they had given up, there wouldn’t be ChatGPT today.

And people like me wouldn’t have the opportunity to create things the way I did any easier. I felt so grateful to them, I didn’t even pay a subscription fee for this great benefit. At the time, I truly thought they were good people.
